The Association for Clinical Artificial Intelligence (AfCAI) offers five categories of membership, each reflecting different stages of a career in clinical AI. Annual fees are reviewed periodically by the Board of Trustees.
Membership Categories
Student — £61 per annum
Open to individuals enrolled in a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate programme relevant to clinical AI, healthcare, or a related discipline. Proof of current student status is required at the time of application and upon annual renewal.
Associate — £85 per annum
Open to early-career practitioners, researchers, or professionals with an interest in clinical AI who do not yet meet the full criteria for Member. Associate membership provides access to AfCAI resources, events, and community, and serves as a pathway to full membership.
Member — £128 per annum
Open to qualified practitioners who can demonstrate evidence of fulfilling the competencies and professional standards set out in the AfCAI framework. Applications are reviewed by the Membership Sub-Committee prior to acceptance. Successful applicants may use the post-nominal MAfCAI.
Fellow — £128 per annum
The Fellowship grade recognises significant expertise, leadership, and contribution to the field of clinical AI. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of fulfilling advanced competencies and professional standards against the AfCAI framework. All applications are reviewed by the Membership Sub-Committee prior to acceptance. Successful applicants may use the post-nominal FAfCAI.
Honorary Membership
Honorary membership may be conferred at the discretion of AfCAI in recognition of exceptional or distinguished contribution to clinical AI or to the aims of the Association. Honorary members are nominated by the Board of Trustees and are not subject to an annual fee.
Competency Framework — Member and Fellow
Applicants for Member and Fellow grades are required to provide evidence of fulfillment of the relevant competencies and professional standards as defined in the AfCAI Competency Framework. This evidence is reviewed by the AfCAI Membership Sub-Committee, whose decision on acceptance is final. Applicants will be informed of the outcome following committee review.
